and 2: On December 20, 2021, the school board revised policies 2260 to revoke authority to treat boys and girls differently in specific lawful situations, such as with locker rooms and sports teams. It also revised policy 3122 to revoke authority to lawfully consider a candidate’s conviction record when hiring a teacher. Arnhoelter voted in favor of the revisions; Brey voted against them.
, 4, and 5: On April 3, 2023, Arnhoelter blocked consideration of three motions (resolutions 1, 2, and 4 in Resolutions on Special Interest Group Interference) made by Brey. Consideration was blocked by board members who opted against seconding the motion, which prevented discussion of the motion’s merits. Brey has publicly commented on the resolutions in the following posts: Bypassing sex ed review, Political activism, and Discriminatory flags.
On May 17, 2021, the school board approved restoring the middle school bussing from the Covid-19 distance of 1.5 miles to back to 2 miles. Arnhoelter and Brey voted in favor.
On July 17, 2023, the school board approved academic standards from the Department of Public Instruction (DPI) that dropped requirements for use of precise language, analysis of works of exceptional craft and thought, and analysis of seminal U.S. documents such as the Declaration of Independence, the Preamble to the Constitution, and the Gettysburg Address. Brey proposed a resolution to amend DPI’s recommended academic standards as part of adopting them. However, a motion to adopt DPI’s standards without amendment was offered and passed instead. Arnhoelter voted in favor of adoption without amendment; Brey voted against.
On March 20, 2023, the school board approved a teacher compensation plan that removed merit pay and used seniority as a primary factor. Arnhoelter voted in favor of the compensation plan; Brey voted against it.
